Class Film Opening Analysis

Class Film Opening Analysis

Genre

Genre is clearly shown in the opening credits of Skyfall, as it immediately sets the scene through different aspects of the clip. For example the use of guns is used in the clip clearly showing the audience that there are obviously going to be gun fights/guns used. The audience then clearly know that the film genre is going to include parts of action in it. Genre is also presented by the use of blood presented in the clip. Connotations of blood include the use of danger, crime, action packed, death and many other aspects again showing the audience that the film has the genre of action implemented.

Narrative/Sound
I put sound and narrative as one sub section, due to lack of dialogue shown in the clip. The only sound you hear, is the theme tune to the film. The song really presents to the audience that atmospheric vibe of what exactly the film is going to be like making the audience attached to the film and intrigued to watch more. The song also has a strong relation with regards to the story-line of the film. The word 'Skyfall' included in the song gives off a mystery to the audience making them ask questions to themselves of what this word means in relation to the film. Another reason for them to keep watching for unanswered questions.

Character
Character plays a strong part in the clip, as 90% of the time, James Bond is included in the clip, but presented in multiple fashions. This then tells the audience that he is going to be shown in different ways and is going to be in the majority of the film. He is shown pointing a gun at many different occasions, connoting that he is going to be facing danger in the film. This gives the audience excitement as they are going to want to watch action packed scenes reinforcing the point regarding them want to watch more of the film. From this we can learn that our film opening needs to be appealing immediately to our target audience for it to be successful.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere in the clip is presented in a very negative light, as the mood is quite dark and has a black background giving off a spooky and mysterious effect that the audience would probably want to see. It's also got a very tense vibe to making it quite serious but also energetic at the same time.

Setting
The setting of a lot of the clips are in graveyards connoting death, fear and danger, giving the target audience the type of genre they came to see. It makes the setting really tense and atmospheric setting it in very sinister surrounds making the audience want to keep watching.

Titles
The titles of the film have a set orderly structure, from the name of the film, to the main actors, directors and producers. This can help us when creating our film as it gives us a specific orderly manner of how we structure our titles in the opening scene of our clip.

Addition to this the paragraphs above will help us to create our film, as it can give us different ideas for the setting in relation the genre. It also gives us inspiration when making ours, as our genre is also action and we can see what they have done, and copy aspects of it into ours.
